Towers flying in today, opening day, for new Polar Peak Lift!
Fernie, BC (December 2, 2011) - The towers for the new Polar Peak Lift are finally getting air lifted by a gigantic Kamov twin-engine, co-axial rotor helicopter today, Dec 2nd, for installation thanks to a break in the weather. With Fernie being such a powder destination the Resort has been waiting for the weather to turn from snow to blue skies and minimal wind so they can heli in the towers.
Today is also the official opening day for Fernie Alpine Resort! Although plans were to open majority of the terrain and lifts, the resort is keeping the Timber and White Pass Chair closed for the day until the towers are all airlifted in.
If you look closely you can see the helicopter in the image hovering over the top of Polar Peak. Exciting times in Fernie!!
The lift is expected to be operational before Christmas holidays.
