Travis Tritt was a hit in Fernie, BC on April 23rd as part of the 4-stop Western Canada leg of his 'The Calm After...' Tour.
It was clear he loved the crowd as much as they loved him, performing lively hits including 'Ten Feet Tall and Bulletproof' and 'T-R-O-U-B-L-E' plus a ballad set and covers of famous tunes including the Eagles 'Taking it Easy', Tritt showed off his vocal range and extensive repertoire. The 400+ strong crowd enjoyed a great stage show at the Fernie Memorial Arena with lighting, sound and set usually only seen in much larger venues, along with friendly beverage service from the Fernie Brewing Company. Tritt later tweeted "Great time tonight in Fernie, BC Canada! Thanks for the great reception!"
A facebook fan posted "For such a small venue Travis still put his all into the show!!..you are truly one of a kind!!.."
The evening was hosted by Kenny Hess, who also performed an opening set along with his daughter Becca Hess. Hess is from the area and started his career singing at the Central Hotel in Fernie. Becca, his youngest daughter now lives in Nashville where she is recording a new album.
Just one day after legendary bluesman Guy Davis played The Arts Station, and one week after 54-40 closed out the winter season at Fernie Alpine Resort, Fernie is becoming known as a great venue for live music- at any time of the year. Don't miss Wapiti, Fernie's Indie Music Festival on August 7-8.
