March 17, 2015
Across the globe everyone has known the 2014-2015 ski season has been a challenge with the warm temperatures and lower snow levels throughout western North America. This was no exception with Fernie. Known consistently for huge snowfalls, epic terrain and a place that attracts the world's most passionate skiers and snowboarders, Fernie was learning how to work the magic with less snow while waiting for the legendary powder dump to happen. Well it did on March 15th.
Fernie Alpine Resort recorded 65cm/26in of fresh snow yesterday bringing a whole lot of happiness to the people. As the resort's ski and avalanche patrol quickly managed the abundance of new snow opening bowls one by one powder seekers were in heaven getting all the fresh tracks their legs could handle. The cat ski operations of Island Lake Catskiing and Fernie Wilderness Adventures also recorded over 65cm.
March 16th & St Patty's Day will be a day to remember in Fernie! See you on the slopes and enjoy Spring Break!
