For over 30 years Steven Heighton has been exploring words through different genres, styles, ideas, and voices. He's an award-winning author of seventeen books in various forms from novels to poetry, short stories, essays, and a memoir.
Beginning his creative life as an aspiring songwriter while travelling and busking in his 20s, he soon devoted himself to writing books; morphing lyrics into poetry, then short stories and expanding to novels. In 2010 after taking up recreational hockey he sustained an injury crushing his voicebox (a fractured laryngeal). When an ER doctor told him he may never speak or sing again, the shock brought Heighson back to his guitar and pushed him to sing again.
For 5 years, the Fernie Heritage Library has welcomed some of the biggest names in Canadian writing for a highly anticipated reception that includes an author reading and Q&A followed by live music and lively discussion. The evenings begin with delicious complimentary appetizers and a cash bar.
