Fernie's first ever Birkenbeiner! Join the Fernie Nordic Society for a fun season ender event at the Fernie Nordic Centre.
Distanced at approximately 50 km classic event, unsupported, this won't an event for the faint-hearted. Bring your registration fee of $15 per person on the morning of the event.
From Elk Valley Nordic Centre and return to same point From Warming Hut > Runt > long way around Galloway > Ski Hill connector > across the bottom of the hill to the Deer Chair > Deer Chair up > over to Silk trail > Scandia trail loop > Silk again > lower mountain back to the connector (no chairlift) > long way around Galloway > Runt > Hut This route would be done twice for the race. There will be a cut off time for the second loop announced at the meeting on the morning of the event.
Participants to meet at the hut at 9:00 a.m. The race starts at 9:30 a.m. and there will be a cut off time to start the second lap announced on the morning of. Lift ticket for the Deer chair at Fernie Alpine Resort is included in your race fee (waiver completed ahead of time).
Prizes for best costume (not only more fun, but proven to make you faster!).
This event is unsupported but there will be aid/food at the hut for when the racers come around. The Birkie is paired with a season wrap up for the Fernie Nordic Society at the finish line.
