This uplifting workshop will help you discover everything you need to know to turn your yoga practice upside down.

Finding your balance when you're upright can be tricky, but it's an entirely different ball game when your whole perspective and body is upside down. Consequently, inversions can be daunting and it can be difficult to know where to start. This workshop will give you the guidance and confidence to challenge yourself and give you tools to take back into class with you. With Heather Ivany & Julie Gallant. 

Why inversions are important to your health:

  • The human body is more than 60% water and therefore very susceptible to the pull of gravity. When you invert yourself, tissue fluids from your lower extremities drain, even more effectively than when you sleep. Inversions also rest your heart and promote more efficient gas exchange in the lower lungs.
  • On mental and emotional levels, overcoming fears, trusting in your own abilities and trying new things are lessons which can be applied to life.

Gain confidence:

  • Discover how to prepare your body and mind for both the simple and more challenging inversions, and to approach them with confidence in your practice.
  • From headstand, shoulder stand, handstand, and other inversions, find out how to build these poses safely, overcome fears and discover the power of your centre.

The smaller group workshop setting provides greater opportunity for individual attention and hands-on adjustments and will include:

  • Q&A session
  • Hands-on adjustments
  • Individual input on specific issues, challenges or injuries you’re facing in your inversions practice

Recommended for:

Students with a weekly practice who want to continue the growth of their practice, both by revisiting its foundations and learning adjustments that will build strength and flexibility in inverted poses.

ABOUT THE CASTLE: The Castle on First is located in what was once a historic garage, converted into a four-­story residential and commercial zoned building, modeled after a castle (with turret and all) in the heart of Fernie’s historic downtown. We are a community of leaders passionate about sharing our love for yoga, dance, fitness and other forms of movement in a nurturing and inspiring environment.
