From December 1 to April 30, the Fernie Museum is hosting the exhibit, Treasures and Curiosities from the Fernie Museum Collections, which draws on its 10,000 + artifact collection.
This Lunch and Learn session with Don from Dragon Antiques in Cranbrook explores criteria for making challenging decisions about treasured objects, whether a “collector”, a casual acquirer or the inheritor of family heirlooms.
Discover solutions to the conundrum of dealing with accumulated objects, whether in a collecting mode or a downsizing one. What types of values do collections or individual objects possess; sentimental, monetary, historical, cultural or social values all have relevance for an object and the context in which it exists. This session will address how to determine when an appraisal might be useful, questions to ask appraisers and disposition options (donation, sale, retain).
Fernie Museum Executive Director Ron Ulrich will follow Don's presentation and discuss how to gift objects to museums.
Advance tickets are recommended and can be purchased at the Fernie Museum and ONLINE. Members of the Fernie Museum and the Fernie Seniors Centre, $13.00; Non-members, $15.00. Lunch includes soup, sandwich, dessert, and coffee/tea, and admission to the Fernie Museum following the presentation.
