Bull River Adventures

Explore the beautiful South Country near Fernie on gentle, sure-footed horses. Based near the Bull River, 60km/45 minutes drive from Fernie.

Bull River Adventures specialises in half-day, full-day and multi-day horseback riding tours. All trips are based out of the main lodge located beside the Bull River. 

Tour Options

Due to the nature of the rugged terrain, trips are at a walking pace, giving the best opportunity to take in the spectacular scenery and hopefully, spot some wildlife!

Tours typically begin in June and are subject to weather and terrain conditions, with tours operating until late August or into September as conditions allow.

Great for families and small groups

Enjoy a gentle 3 hour tour on valley trails, with a lunchtime picnic or cowboy dinner included! Tours include orientation before the ride. 

  • Half Day Ride & Picnic
    • The gentlest option along the Bull River Valley. Suitable for families (age 6+) and novice/inexperienced riders. 
      Arrive at the Lodge at 9 am for orientation, followed by the tour and trailside picnic. Depart from the lodge approx 2:30pm.
       
  • Half Day Ride & Cowboy Dinner
    • A more strenuous ride requiring some rider ability. Ride the scenic river valley, cross the river and then gain elevation on the mountain for stunning views. 
      Arrive at the Lodge at 2:45 pm for orientation, followed by the tour and an organic, grass-fed beef steak dinner. Depart from the lodge by 9 pm.

Full Day Rides for experienced riders

A good level of fitness, riding ability and confidence is required to take on the challenging terrain on these trail rides. 

  • The Burning Goat Mountain Horse Adventure
    • A full day ride exploring mountain trails, forests and the Bull River Valley. Includes a hearty mountaintop picnic, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. 
       
  • The Lookout Mountain Horse Ride and Hike
    • Ride out to enjoy lunch at a secluded mountain cabin, followed by a hike to the Lookout or Alpine Lake. Saddle up after the hike for the ride back to the lodge. 
       
  • The Barrier Horse/Hike Challenge
    • A challenging mountain ride that includes steep twisting trails, river crossings, obstacles and portions of the trail where you will need to dismount and lead your horse. Includes lunch and an optional hike to the mountain saddle top. For very confident, experienced riders only!
