Log Jams on the

Elk River

Recent log jam near the Fernie Stanford Resort partially removed.

If you're planning to float (i.e. SUP or tube) the river, the recommended section is from the North Bridge to the Dogwood boat launch, which is before a commonly affected area by log jams closer to the Stanford Hotel, that poses a serious risk to river users. HOWEVER, other log jams or new log jams can be anywhere and occur at any time. Scout the river in advance, use extra caution while on the water, and always wear a properly fitted life jacket.

Staying Safe on the Elk River

Floating the Elk River is a lot of fun, but it shouldn't be mistaken for a lazy river at a water park. Know the risks and be prepared. Visit our Scenic River Float page for tips on how to safely enjoy a summer day on the Elk River.
