As part of a major investment into the mountain experience announced by the Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, two brand-new high-speed lifts are set to arrive at Fernie in 2027, making it easier, faster, and more exciting to explore the resort year-round.
Meet the Elk Express
The current Elk Quad chair lift is getting a major upgrade with the arrival of the new Elk Express — a high-speed detachable quad that will cut ride times to mid-mountain nearly in half! That means more laps, less waiting, and quicker access to your favourite terrain.
The Elk Express will also play a huge role in Fernie’s summer operations, creating a smoother and faster ride for sightseeing, biking, hiking, and mountain adventures during the warmer months. The Elk Express is expected to open for the 2027/28 winter season.
Introducing the Cedar Bowl Express
Fernie’s second new lift, the Cedar Bowl Express, is set to completely change how riders access one of the resort’s most iconic areas.
This new high-speed quad will take skiers and riders directly from the bottom of Cedar Bowl to the top of the Bear Chair area — replacing the current three-lift journey with a single seamless ride. Less traversing. Less waiting. More Cedar laps.
The Cedar Bowl Express is also scheduled to open for the 2027/28 winter season.
A Big Step Forward for Fernie
These new lifts are part of a larger investment into the future of Fernie, focused on improving mountain access, reducing ride times, and creating a better experience for guests in every season. From faster access to mid-mountain to easier laps through Cedar Bowl, the next few years are shaping up to be a big one for Fernie skiers, riders, and summer visitors alike.
Stay tuned for more updates as construction approaches.
