Breaking the Rules in Contemporary Watercolour invites artists to move beyond traditional techniques and explore watercolour as a living, evolving collaborator. Through experimentation, participants will discover how releasing control can lead to unexpected transformations, expressive mark-making, and a fresh perspective on what watercolour can become. The resulting artwork emerges through a dynamic dance with the medium, where process and discovery become as important as the final image.

Working with watercolour on non-traditional surfaces such as canvas and birch panels, participants will learn about the materials Linnea uses in her contemporary practice, including how to properly prepare these surfaces for painting. Come with an open mind and a basic understanding of watercolour—but leave traditional rules and expectations at the door.
