BATS: Out of the Darkness, a Kelowna Museum travelling exhibition, aims to serves as a reminder of how essential bats are to the environment and provides a chance to celebrate these amazing creatures and foster stewardship within BC. 

Find out more about the amazing world of bats including their biology, ecology and myths. Eavesdrop on echolocation calls, touch and feel bat research equipment, and experience the exhibit while you learn about Kootenay bat populations and how you can help to support local species.

This family-friendly exhibit covers bat ecology, biology, habitat needs, syilx/Okanagan Nation perspectives, conservation issues, personal stories/case studies and fun facts. Come and explore the mysterious world of bats through family-friendly interactive displays which celebrate these amazing flying mammals and remind us how essential they are to our environment.

Bats: Out of the Darkness features interactive video and audio elements, first-person stories, incredible photographs and hands-on displays including bat taxidermy. Visitors can explore bat biology, ecology, and habitats, as well as their vital role in controlling insect populations and pollinating plants. Guests can also discover the deep cultural significance of bats through the perspective of the syilx/Okanagan Nation and understand the challenges that bats face due to loss of habitat, introduced disease, and human misconceptions.

The Fernie Museum is open from 11 AM to 4 PM daily and admission is by donation.
