FTA's role goes far beyond simple upkeep. This is ongoing, hands-on stewardship. From building new singletrack to repairing erosion, improving drainage, and enhancing user experience, the work happens year-round through a mix of professional crews and a deeply committed volunteer community. Weekly trail nights, seasonal projects, and long-term planning all contribute to a network that continues to evolve with the needs of both locals and visitors.

As a registered charity, Fernie Trails Alliance is dedicated to creating the best possible experience for all trail users, from hikers and trail runners to mountain bikers.
Born out of the Fernie Trails & Ski Touring Club, the FTA focuses on the management and long-term sustainability of Fernie’s summer trail system, ensuring that access, quality, and responsible use remain at the forefront.

Equally important is the FTA’s collaborative approach. The organization works closely with landowners, local businesses, recreation groups, and conservation partners to protect access while balancing environmental responsibility. This cooperation is what allows Fernie’s trails to expand thoughtfully - supporting recreation, preserving natural landscapes, and strengthening the Fernie's reputation as a world-class mountain destination. At its core, the FTA isn’t just maintaining trails. It’s shaping the future of how people experience Fernie, one stretch of dirt at a time.

As a Charity, the FTA relies on donations as much as they rely on grants and volunteer hours. If you're not actively using the trails, making a donation is the perfect way to support local trails. Any donation is a great help to the Fernie trail network, whether a general donation or to a specific project.
Majority of visitors to Fernie explore our trails during their stay. If you are mountain biking, hiking, trail running or walking on local trails, please consider purchasing an FTA Trail Pass.
