Montane & Castle Mountain

Riding Area

Trail area easily accessible on bike right from town. There is a ride for everyone in the Montane trail area.

Montane trails are similar to Fernie Ridge Area in popularity and diversity but with the added local favourite of riding to Montane Hut for its spectacular views of the valley. All of the trails are on private land, please ride with respect to the landowner and trail groups managing the trails.

These trails are all located on Castle Mountain on the southeast side of town, adjacent to the Fernie Ridge trails area, which makes for an easy combination of riding more and longer!

Main trailhead is the Montane trailhead off Montane Parkway which provides parking, trail sign kiosk and an outhouse.  Riders can easily access all the trails by bike.

Popular Trails in Montane

The Montane and Castle Mountain trails are a mix of easy to black diamond options.

Popular options include the easy adaptive trail called Easy Beaver to Montane Hut (5km one way), riding Montane Blue loop - an intermediate 11km singletrack loop ride that includes the hut, or challenging yourself all the way up through Montane trails, to Roots, then up Hyper Ventilation for the fun technical down of Hyperextension, or over to Today's Special or Southern Comfort.

There is a ride for everyone in the Montane trail area.

Check out the Fernie Summer Trail Map for more info. We also recommend downloading the Trailforks App for all Fernie trails, details, GPS and more.

Respect & Support the Trails

You're riding on privately-owned land.

All of these trails are on private land and we are grateful to have continued access to this important trail system. Two different landowners and two different trail groups manage the trails in this area. Please see below for trail pass info and respect the trails and adhere to signage.
