ABOUT THE OWNER
Pastry Chef Catherine Chartrand moved to Fernie from Quebec as many do, to chase adventure. Soon after being here and being introduced to the food industry she decided to take her new found experience, and her lifelong love for baking back to Quebec to get certified. She received her pastry chef certification from Ecole Hoteliere de la capital, in Quebec city. After completion she made the migration once again, back to Fernie.
Here she gained experience working under some respected colleagues until it was time to spread her wings and venture out on her own. House of Gato started at the Fernie Mountain Market and it quickly became clear that there was support for a permanent location in Fernie. Owner Cat is in charge of the cakes and pastries and is often the girl you will see creating magic in the early mornings inside House of GATO, while husband Derek keeps the wheels turning in the background in his spare time from his full-time job as a surveyor.
