The kitchen at House of Gato is a mere 300 square feet. This space is ideal for producing only the freshest items in small batches.
With a small space, owner and pastry chef Catherine Chartrand stays true to her heart and her passion, focusing intensely on quality. Due to the size and nature of the space, House of Gato is open limited hours and selection may vary day by day. Service is offered to go only; enjoy at home, on the go, or relax at the picnic tables nearby at the City Hall Municipal Gardens.
House of Gato specialises in French-style sweet and savoury pastries including croissants, palmiers, danishes, macarons and eclairs. Sandwiches are prepared fresh daily to go and hot drinks are also available. Exquisite custom cakes are available to order for special occasions. Vegan items are available.
ABOUT THE OWNER
Pastry Chef Catherine Chartrand moved to Fernie from Quebec as many do, to chase adventure. Soon after being here and being introduced to the food industry she decided to take her new found experience, and her lifelong love for baking back to Quebec to get certified. She received her pastry chef certification from Ecole Hoteliere de la capital, in Quebec city. After completion she made the migration once again, back to Fernie.
Here she gained experience working under some respected colleagues until it was time to spread her wings and venture out on her own. House of Gato started at the Fernie Mountain Market and it quickly became clear that there was support for a permanent location in Fernie. Owner Cat is in charge of the cakes and pastries and is often the girl you will see creating magic in the early mornings inside House of GATO, while husband Derek keeps the wheels turning in the background in his spare time from his full-time job as a surveyor.
