Fat Biking 101

Fat biking is to mountain biking what snowshoeing is to hiking. Fat bikes are just like any other bike, but with custom forks and extra-wide tires to provide stability, grip, and stopping power in the snow. Just like nordic skiing and snowshoeing, fat biking a great cardiovascular workout and uses a good range of muscles. If you can ride a bike, you can ride a fat bike, just start on the flat trails first. And good news, it's not BYOBike—many shops have rentals!

Where to Ride your Fat Bike in Fernie

Winter fat biking is allowed on many of Fernie's trails, but not all trails are groomed and some are exclusively for Nordic Skiing. Only certain singletrack trails will be groomed by local volunteers, such as Montane Blue trails, Contra, the multi-use trails at Fernie Alpine Resort. Please adhere to all local rules and signage. You can stay up to date on trail conditions by joining the Fernie Fatbike Facebook Group.
