Armed yourself with your smartphone and a sense of adventure. You too can get out and join the biggest worldwide treasure hunt.

There are over 3 million geocache locations worldwide, of which 477 have been hidden geocaches spread around Fernie.

What is Geocaching

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using a GPS-enabled device. You'll be provided with a set of GPS coordinates to navigate to before attempting to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.

How To Geocache

1: Go to www.geocaching.com and sign up in order to use the Geocaching App.

2: Switch on your phone's GPS/Location. Once you've signed into the app, open the map and you'll see all the geocaches in the surrounding area.

3: Get searching! Go for a hike and bring your smartphone or GPS and find that cache!

4: Found the cache? Look inside!

5: Read the information provided in the cache

6: Put the cache back where you found it, and make sure it’s hidden so it won’t be found accidentally!

As with any other outdoor activity, please remember to be aware of your surroundings whilst geocaching.
