SUMMER 2020 GUIDE

Drive through the ancient Old Growth cedar forest to the apex of the Cedar Valley, and Island Lake Lodge. Here you can enjoy casual lunches and cocktails on the patio for lunch or gourmet dining in the evening restaurant while the sun sets over the Three Bears. The property is a beautiful wilderness valley with spectacular views and the ultimate in R n' R. Fernie is the furthest East the beautiful Old Growth Cedar trees grow.

Covid-19 Update: A number of new policies and procedures have been implemented to keep staff and guests safe. These are posted around the lodges and on the Lodge website. Please adhere to all social distancing and Covid-19 related guidelines, signage and policies.

On some days, the lodge may not be available or open due to a private function or wedding - call or visit this webpage for updates. Visitors can always access the trails.

Hiking & Mountain Biking
A number of well-marked hiking trails lead from the lodge. Easier trails at the valley floor include the Rail Trail, Old Growth Trail and Lake & Fir Trails and are suitable for families with younger children. The Tamarack Trail is a short climb and offers beautiful views of the Lodge below, as well as the Three Bears peaks on the Lizard Range to the other side of the valley. Spineback Trail and the Mt Baldy Loop are more challenging trails for experienced hikers through alpine meadows to the upper reaches at the head of the Cedar Valley.

Biking the Lazy Lizard Trail at Island Lake Lodge
We know you’re itching to get out! The trails at Island Lake Lodge are now open for use and everyone is encouraged to get out and enjoy nature safely while practicing social distancing. Island Lake Lodge needs your help to limit or refrain from doing bike shuttles by vehicle up the road to the lodge for the Lazy Lizard trail. The trail was built as an “up and down” trail and the Lodge asks that you use it as such. You can park at the trailhead for Lazy Lizard by the Island Lake Lodge gate. Your help is appreciated - enjoy the trails!

Heiko's Trail, ending at Island Lake Lodge, is a spectacular trail crosses 2 mountain passes and includes waterfalls, alpine meadows, and the Bisaro Cave. The hike is a strenuous 10-12 hours and can be done as a day hike or as an overnight wilderness campout. Plan to end at Island Lake Lodge and enjoy a celebration dinner on arrival!
