WildSafeBc is an initiative to reduce human/wildlife conflict through education, innovation and cooperation. Fernie is a primary access point to the wilderness and has become an outdoor recreational hotspot.

The diverse climate and geography in this area provide an abundance of natural food for wildlife. Fernie is made up of a series of narrow valleys with the Elk River winding through the valleys, providing natural wildlife corridors. The natural topography of the landscape funnels movement of wildlife downwards towards the valley bottom to the Elk River and the City of Fernie.

Fernie is in Wildlife Country

Fernie is located in prime wildlife habitat and people come from around the world for recreation in this habitat. This area is also essential for the survival of bears, cougars, coyotes, moose, deer and other wildlife.

We have chosen to visit, live, work and play in wildlife habitat.  With this choice comes a responsibility to ensure peaceful coexistence. By putting thought and energy into preventing human/conflict our wildlife will remain wild and our community safe.

Please visit wildsafeBC website to learn what you can do to help keep wildlife and our community safe. Stay safe and help us keep local wildlife wild!
