Coal Creek Heritage Society was created in 2020 to manage and maintain the privately owned trails in Ridgemont and Montane.
Fernie Ridge system, is one of Fernie's most popular multi-use non-motorized trail systems featuring both beginner and advanced singletrack trails for mountain biking, walking, trail running and hiking in spring, summer and fall. Many of these trails are groomed in the winter for multi-use fat biking, XC touring (not track set) and snowshoeing, foot traffic is not permitted in the upper trails due to maintaining the integrity of the grooming work. A new 2024-2025 Winter Trail Map will show what activities are permitted where.
Montane trail system is Fernie's newest trail system and easily connects to Fernie Ridge Trails & Castle Mountain Trails. Also for non-motorized use, Montane features many options including the adaptive trail called Easy Beaver, an easy and wide trail for all levels of trail users that leads to Montane Hut, an exceptional view point of the valley and Rocky Mountains. From easy trails to intermediate ther are a variety of singletrack options for mountain biking, walking, hiking and trail running. During the winter months many of the trails are grooming, including a dedicate Nordic skiing only trail to the Hut and back. View Montane Trails on Trailforks.
