2018/2019 Guided Trips 

All our guided trips start with a rescue skills review followed by eight hours of riding. Whether you are a never-ever sledder eager to see stunning sights on a groomed trail or a powder-pro looking to dip your sled into that legendary Fernie snow, a dedicated guide will customize the perfect itinerary for your group's needs. Gourmet packaged lunches, avalanche safety gear rentals, and snowmobile rentals available (additional charges apply). First rider $300, each additional rider $100.

2018/2019 Avalanche Training Courses

Have fun, gain confidence and get home safely. Elk Valley Snow Shepherds professional instructors, accredited by the Canadian Avalanche Association, can teach you the snowmobile specific skills required for travel in backcountry terrain. Our courses follow a curriculum developed by Avalanche Canada. Participants will receive a certificate upon successful completion. For course dates or detailed information, please visit

Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 $350

    • 2 days: 7 hours classroom and 1 field day
    • "THE" course for all sledders traveling in mountain terrain
    • Learn the fundamentals of sledding in avalanche terrain
    • Entry level course suitable for sledders with basic training and little experience
    • Various course dates throughout the season. 

Companion Rescue $175

    • 1 Field day
    • Learn life-saving search and rescue techniques
    • Great skills refresher or quick entry-level course

Managing Avalanche Terrain $200 

    • 1 Field day
    • Great AST1 refresher or add on to improve confidence
    • Learn how to reduce your risk through safe travel habits
    • Understand basic terrain management skills
    • Practice fundamental trip planning techniques

Avalanche Skills Training Level 2 $750

    • 4 days: 1 classroom and 3 field days
    • Enhance your decision-making skills for traveling in avalanche terrain
    • Learn progressive planning and travel techniques 
    • Improve proficiency in companion rescue skills
