The Coal Creek Heritage Society (CCHS) is a volunteer-driven non-profit established in 2020 and dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Coal Creek, one of the communities that helped shape Fernie. Through restoration projects, storytelling, and community events, they keep the area’s coal mining past alive while protecting its remaining historic sites.

Coal Creek Heritage Society also manages and maintains the privately owned trails in Fernie Ridge (Ridgemont) and Montane areas of Fernie.

Fernie's popular trail system that easily connects to Fernie Ridge Trails & Castle Mountain Trails.  Accessible for non-motorized use only, Montane features many options including the Easy Beaver Adaptive Trail, a mellow and wide trail for all levels of trail users that leads to Montane Hut, an exceptional view point of the valley and Rocky Mountains.

From easy trails to intermediate there are a variety of singletrack options for mountain biking, walking, hiking and trail running.  During the winter months many of the trails are groomed, including a dedicated Nordic skiing only trail to the Hut and back.
