Situated in the South Eastern corner of BC, the East Kootenays offers a network of world-class backroads/FSRs (Forest Service Roads) and trails accessing stunning natural scenery, pristine rivers, mountain passes, wildlife, world-class fishing, hot springs, ghost towns and historical sites.

Riding Locations & Resources

Adventure riders can access a number of suggested backcountry itineraries via FSRs that will lead off the pavement and around the region. Fernie is a great place to set up base and explore the greater Elk Valley. Suggested itineraries expand from Radium Hot Springs to the US border and from Alberta to Kootenay Lake, minimizing pavement exposure.

A network of over 60km of singletrack and over 100km of doubletrack in the Dorr/Grasmere area of Koocanusa, 40 minutes away from Fernie, offers fantastic trail riding options. This trail network is popular with beginners, intermediates and families, including Gracie's loop, a 10km kids loop through the Grasmere BC Recreation Site with an optional detour to the Loon Lake Recreation site, a great spot to stop and see turtles!

About

Elk Valley Adventure and Dirt Riders Society - EVADRS - is a non-profit working towards protecting your opportunity to ride in the Elk Valley. EVADRS advocates for and practices responsible trail and backroads usage in order to support the growth and sustainability of off-road dirt biking & adventure riding.

The society's goals are to develop and maintain safe and sustainable recreational riding, family fun and create community while supporting inclusive relationships and partnerships with all stakeholders, in accordance to of the Trails Strategy for B.C and understanding the needs of all users. Through careful land advocacy and work, the society strives to keep areas accessible and secure land stewardship by fostering respect and collaboration between society members, landowners, stakeholders, and the local communities.

In 2019, the Koocanusa Recreation Steering Committee (KRSC), with the support of Recreation Sites and Trails BC (RSTBC), identified a sustainable network of single track and double track trails at Koocanusa: the Dorr/Grasmere Motorized Trail Network. To become sanctioned and protected, trail users had to step up and enter into a partnership with RSTBC to become custodians of the trails.

The EVADRS team of volunteers stepped up. EVADRS is now working to gain momentum through the support of it’s members to keep the trails open. By sharing a passion for two-wheeled travel, the organisation hopes to expand adventure riding resources and information to all back roads enthusiasts and promoting the endless, impressive backcountry that is out there to be ridden.
