Mt Fernie & Mt Fernie Provincial

Park Riding Area

Extensive trail area that features some of Fernie's best singletrack technical riding.

Ridable from town via the Fernie Valley Pathway, this extensive trail area features some of Fernie's best singletrack technical riding. Most trails are accessed through Mt Fernie Provincial Park on the south end of town.

The renowned, primarily singletrack, trails in this area are extensive and varied, most being multi-use, and multi-directional. Famous trail names include Project 9 (P9 for short), Lactic Ridge, Lazy Lizard, Snake Bite and Verboten.

2 Ways to Access

The primary access points are within Mt Fernie Provincial Park, which is an easy ride from town using the Fernie Valley Pathway especially when parking is limited within the Park area. Another access point into the riding area is via Phat Bastard trailhead off Burma Road, or via Fernie Alpine Resort Bike Park (pass required to ride the lift).

Most of the trails are on Mt Fernie or across Lizard Creek and onto the lower mountains of the Lizard Range. The trails here can be later to open in spring due to their more northerly facing slopes. This trail system connects to Island Lake Lodge via Lazy Lizard, or to Fernie Alpine Resort via Gorby. A few trails, such as Verboten and P9 down, are designated as 'downhill' only due to their steep technical build for mountain biking.

Note: Lazy Lizard is a very popular blue trail to Island Lake Lodge and is an 'all-user' trail with many hikers and families. Be loud on trails to warn others of your approach and be trail-friendly to all users.
