Fernie Brewing Co. and its popular, small-town name place may be a far cry from BC’s coastal craft beer hub(s), but when it comes to beer, they’re as passionate as the rest.
As a result, at the recent Canadian Brewing Awards, presented on May 31st, Fernie took home two Silver Medals for two of their most popular seasonal products. Owning the podium with 2 fellow BC Breweries, FBC's Sap Sucker Maple Porter, which won Gold in 2011, again brought success back to the East Kootenays, with a Silver Medal in the Honey/Maple Category. FBC’s second success was with their organic pumpkin packed Pumpkin Head Brown Ale. A popular seasonal specialty, available in the fall to cater for Thanksgiving and Halloween needs, it will be returning for its fourth year in September, and this time as a Silver Medal winner in the Fruit Beer Category. Earlier this year, soon after the release of their newest can,Project 9 Pils, their new summer session brew brought home the People’s Choice Award at the Okanagan Fest of Ale on its first festival outing, closely followed by Silver at the Calgary BeerFest on its second.
With strong growth over the past few years and an increasing share of the popular craft beer market in both BC and Alberta, Fernie Brewing Co. has recently started its journey further east. Manitoba has a growing craft beer scene and subsequently FBC will have a selection of some of their most popular products available through Liquor Mart. As of last week the Summer Craft Collection and Lone Wolf IPA hit stores, with the Quiet Rye’t – Rye IPA becoming available as a Limited Release. And finally, Kickstand Honey Kolsch launches at the start of July, being the first product off the production line wearing new look packaging.
Fernie Brewing Co. has also kicked into Summer Opening Hours. From now until the end of August, FBC’s storefront will be open for all craft beer needs – tours, samples, growlers, merchandise and general good beer cheer:
