Held on March 14th at the Fernie Golf Club.
Each year Tourism Fernie holds its Annual General Meeting, including a guest speaker and an opportunity for the local tourism industry to network. This year 74 individuals participated in the event with a guest speaker presentation by Chris Elder from The Web Advisors.
The event began with breakfast at 8:30am by event sponsor, Cooks Catering, and networking until 9:00am. A welcome was then provided by the Chair of Tourism Fernie, Scott Gilmet, followed by the guest speaker presenting on digital marketing. The formal AGM commenced just before 10:00am and consisted of opening statements by Chair, Scott Gilmet, followed by a review of the 2017 financial audit by GPI Accounting and elections for the Board of Directors.
In December of 2017 a Special General Meeting was held with the membership when a new set of bylaws and constitution was approved. The new bylaws included a restructuring of the Board of Director seats. The new nine seats, five to accommodators that collect the MRDT 2% hotel tax, and four open to all other members, received 13 nominations pre-AGM. An election took place next, lead by Graeme Nunn from Rockies Law, with a few ties along the way that required run-off ballot votes.
The new Board of Directors elected, once the voting was completed, consisted of:
MRDT Accommodators:
Non-MRDT Accommodators:
City of Fernie's appointed Councillor Phil Iddon and the Fernie Chamber of Commerce's Executive Director Patty Vadnais will continue to be involved as liaisons to the Board.
Special recognition was then given to those stepping down and who have dedicated much time and expertise to the Board:
After the formal adjournment of the AGM, brief presentations followed by Jikke Gyorki, Tourism Fernie's Executive Officer and by Norm McInnis, City of Fernie's CAO.
