Iconic Spring Photo Spots

to Discover in Fernie

Spring season in Fernie sees the snowy white mountaintops recede to reveal the fresh vegetation ready to burst into life across the valley.

With days gradually getting longer and warmer, it's a great time to escape the city for a mountain getaway. These are some of our iconic photos spots in and around the city. Discover historic attractions, big Rocky Mountain viewpoints, waterfalls, rivers, parks, and golden sunsets this spring.

Fairy Creek Falls

This short and mostly flat hike follows Fairy Creek to Fairy Creek Falls and is one of our most popular and family-friendly trails. With the spring melt you can expect loud torrenting waters and a cool mist in the air as you approach the end. We'd recommend a rain jacket for this if you plan to get close for a selfie photo.

Annex Park

Annex Park is a beautiful open space park with duck ponds, wooden bridges, and a gentle trails along the river and mountain views. There's parking space with access to the park at the end of 11th Street. Annex Park is a part of the Fernie Valley Pathway which is best travelled on foot or bike.

Maiden Lake

Another location that's accessible via the Fernie Valley Pathway. Maiden Lake is a great spot to see the spring melt and capture snowcapped peaks of Mt Proctor, the Three Sisters and Mt. Fernie. You may even catch local wildlife around here too with Beavers, Herons, and Painted Turtles residing in the secluded overgrowth.

Swine Flu Bench

Swine Flu trail is a popular mountain biking trail that is normally clear of snow around the middle of May depending on winter snowfall. The uptrail to this vista point can also be reached by hikers looking for a half day adventure with a rewarding view of the valley. Be sure to return back down the uptrail to avoid encounters with fast decending mountain bikers.

Montane Hut

There are many routes to reach the Montane Hut. We recommend taking the Easy Beaver trail from the Montane Trailhead on Montane Parkway to the hut viewpoint. The approach is very family-friendly and passes through amazing view of the Elk Valley and Lizard Range.

Mountainous landscape with lush greenery, snow-capped peaks of The Three Sisters mountain in Fernie BC, and blue sky with white clouds.

Mount Fernie 1/2 Way Lookout

The iconic trapezoid face of Mount Fernie is virtually visible from everywhere in Fernie. Whilst the trail to the ridge top tends to be impassable under a thick layer of ice and snow until early-June, this bench vista tends to clear in early May. The view of the Three Sisters from here isn't half bad either.

Historic Downtown Fernie

We'll never tire of seeing the Rocky Mountains nestled behind Historic Downtown Fernie. Check into all the quaint shops, cafes, restaurants and attractions as stroll along 2nd Avenue between 7th Street and 5th Street.
