A still life painting workshop with Jolene Miner, celebrating the summer gallery show: Ice Cream.

Paint a still life of a handmade ice cream sculpture using the alla prima technique. People often think alla prima means painting wet-on-wet when it’s actually Italian for “at first attempt”. Painting alla prima is all about completing a painting in one sitting! There’s usually a freshness to these kinds of paintings as they’re done quickly, and painting wet into wet is often a consequence of the quick process. Prepare to have fun with bold, juicy strokes!

Participants will practice the technique on paper before completing an alla prima painting on a small canvas, and, best of all, they get to take their ice cream sculpture home!

Joey Miner will teach you to paint something sweet in pastel colours. She will guide you through the process of drawing your composition, selecting colours and completing your very own unique work of art.

Skill Level: Beginner

Cost: $25 and includes materials.

About the Instructor:

Jolene Miner uses vibrant colors and rich textures to create paintings and paper based works. She earned her BFA from the University of Saskatchewan and now creates in her home studio in the bustling mountain town of Fernie, BC. Jolene’s art practice flows between painting, drawing, bookmaking and collage, and she finds inspiration in the tactile quality of paper, the unselfconscious exploration of materials and the emotive power of colour and line. Joey's artwork is featured in the Ice Cream Gallery Show.

Cancellation Policy:  All cancellation requests must be sent to [email protected] 2 business days prior to the event/program start date for a refund or option to reschedule.
