What is curling?

Curling is a team sport played commonly by two teams of four players each on a sheet of ice. Teams will alternate to 'throw' (or rather slide) granite stones toward a circular target at the opposite end of the sheet. Each player will throw two stones over the course of the round with the objective of having the most stones closest to the centre at the end of the round when all stones have been thrown.

It's a tactical game whereby players will attempt to block and clear stones from the opposing team whilst at the same time trying to position their own stones closest to the target. A skillful player can 'curl' the stone by spinning it on release altering its path toward the target. For each throw, two team members from the thrower's team can also 'sweep' the ice ahead of the stone to speed it up as it moves toward the target.
