Symphony of the Kootenays will perform as a 10-piece chamber orchestra for the first time in many years, featuring members of the strings and winds sections.

The historical Knox on 2nd is the perfect venue to showcase the first Symphony of the Kootenays chamber concert in many years. A ten piece ensemble will perform chamber pieces from Mozart to compositions by SOTK's own Aura Pon, featuring the exceptional talents of Symphony musicians Natasha Hall and Anne Armstrong (violins), Martine Denbok (viola), conductor and cellist Jeff Faragher, Rob Fahie (double bass), Catherine MacKinnon (flute), Aura Pon (oboe), Natalia Peric (clarinet), Jonathan Gresl (bassoon), and Tom Staples (horn).

Immerse yourself in an evening of extraordinary chamber music featuring a captivating blend of classic and contemporary works. Mozart’s radiant Quintet for Clarinet and Strings and the sparkling Quartet for Flute and Strings in D Major showcase his mastery of melody and texture. Aura Pon’s Pura Vida Suite enchants with vibrant, modern energy, while her evocative Hummantra pushes the boundaries of musical imagination. The Danish String Quartet’s The Dromer offers a heart-pounding and foot-tapping groove to the mix, and Louise Farrenc’s Nonet for Strings and Woodwinds concludes the program with its rich, symphonic grandeur and dynamic interplay. Symphony of the Kootenays is based in Cranbrook, BC, the smallest community in Canada to host a professional symphony orchestra. The orchestra has entertained more than 80,000 audience members and employed more than 5,500 musicians playing more than 600 pieces in more than 225 concerts. Musicians are paid professional fees for service., students receive an honorarium.
