Opening day and first day of grooming on the Hartley trail system.
**Please note this date is tentative and subject to conditions.**
The Hartley Lake trail is Fernie’s gateway to technical alpine riding and some of our area’s most remote backcountry terrain. The groomed trail is an easy ride from the staging area, past the old lake bed, through Hartley Pass to a series of open meadows. Riders can enjoy some great boondocking opportunities here or continue beyond to reach some true alpine riding zones set among the towering limestone peaks and scenic rocky mountain vistas. The groomed trail crosses several large avalanche paths which are known to release and block the trail with significant debris piles and no ride-around option available.
Please note there are several date-specific motor vehicle closures areas in the region to preserve opportunities for non-motorized recreation. You are responsible for understanding the boundaries and adhering to regulations. See HERE for more info.
TO ACCESS THE HARTLEY STAGING AREA:
NOTE: No overnight camping, fires, or dumping is permitted in the staging area. Groups of 10 or more riders must notify the FSA prior to using the area for courses, events organized rides, etc as special permitting and regulations apply.
