Discover the fascinating flora, fauna & geology of Fernie with Fernie Alpine Resort's own naturalist guide, Nature Bob!

2025 summer operations: June - September 2025

Located at the top of the Elk Chair, operating daily 10:30 am - 4:30 pm.

Step inside the interpretive centre in the yurt at the top of the Elk Chair and explore fossils, artifacts and information about the unique geological formations and fossils to be found, and the wildlife that makes it's home here in the Elk Valley. The yurt can be accessed by hiking from the base area, or taking the Elk Chairlift.

Complimentary daily interpretive nature hike departing at 2.30pm from Nature Bob's Interpretive Centre, down to the base area. Hike duration approx 1.5 hours.

'Nature Bob' (Bob Livsey) guided people around at Fernie Alpine Resort for over 11 years. Bob was a certified naturalist interpreter with a background in forestry who had a great passion for the mountains and a depth of knowledge that is only achievable through years of experience. When he's not out guiding, he's on hand to answer questions and chat with visitors at the yurt. Take an interpretive guided hike on one of the resort's many trails and gain a deeper understanding of how our valley was formed and how special our ecosystem is. A team of friendly guides will help you discover some secrets of the natural world while exploring the rugged terrain around Fernie Alpine Resort.
