Fernie joined over 200 communities across the country on Saturday 26th August to celebrate the opening of the Trans Canada Trail.
Over 100 riders set off from both Sparwood and Fernie to ride the new trail, before converging in Hosmer for the celebratory BBQ, refreshments and social.
The Trans Canada Trail, also known as The Great Trail connects close to 1000 communities as it stretches 24,000km coast to coast across Canada. Passing through Fernie, the neighbouring communities of Elko, Fernie, Hosmer, Sparwood, and Elkford are joined along a 135km stretch known as the Elk Valley Trail. It is the gateway to British Columbia from the east.
