A New Fernie Initiative to Support Local, Be Rewarded & Win!   

Local businesses, organizations and the tourism sector have endured many challenges and hardships during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Until June 20^th the LOYAL to LOCAL #FernieStrong initiative aims to further support local by rewarding local spending. Scroll below for 'How it Works!'

"We’re really excited about this new initiative in partnership with the Fernie Chamber of Commerce, the Visitor Centre and sponsored by Teck,” explained Jikke Gyorki, Executive Officer at Tourism Fernie. "We wanted to create a more engaging way for locals to support local, by helping all business types throughout the community and by showing off their support with free swag and a chance to win.”

“It’s fun and easy,” stated Jesse Ross, Visitor Services Coordinator with the Fernie Chamber of Commerce. “Just spend at least $100 locally at a place you feel could use the extra support between April 29 – June 20^th and get a cool shirt or hat to show off how you supported local! You can shop at multiple places to add up to that amount too! We want to see people wearing these around town and encouraging others to participate too! Plus, if you post about it and/or challenge others to join in you have more chances to win a $1000 Fernie Staycation prize!"

“We also encourage local businesses to support other local businesses and use the toolkit to help spread the word,” said Brad Parsell, Executive Director of the Fernie Chamber of Commerce. “Fernie is such a supportive community so we really want to see that passion come out for this initiative and see both locals and businesses challenge each other to participate!”

How it Works:

PICK - one, or many, local Fernie businesses or organizations - shop on-location or by phone/online!  Think of those that could use the extra help. Need some ideas? Email us at [email protected] you can also peruse the many businesses and organizations via the Tourism Fernie website or the Fernie Chamber website. You can also use this handy list of Fernie businesses with websites for online shopping, ordering gift certificates or making reservations

SUPPORT - them by spending, or purchasing gift cards, worth at least $100 at the location(s) between April 29 - June 20, 2021.  If you're out-of-town and want to participate you can to, email for details! There are so many places to support, plus multiple receipts adding to at least $100 counts too! Be sure to keep your receipts.  We also encourage local businesses to support other local businesses! A toolkit is available to help!

GET - a FREE thank you LOYAL to LOCAL #FernieStrong t-shirt or hat, plus an entry to win a $1000 Fernie Staycation by bringing your receipts to the Fernie Visitor Centre on the north end of town no later than June 25th (open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm, then daily starting May 17th).  You can also email us at [email protected] to make arrangements, if you're from out-of-town we'll leave the shirt/hat for pick-up or we can ship if you cover the cost of shipping. Limited quanitities mean only 1 shirt or hat per person.  If they are so popular that we need to get more or if people just want more we will order more and sell $20 - which still supports local since Giv'er Shirts is producing them!

CHALLENGE - your friends and family with a good old friendly guilt-trip by getting them to participate. By sharing and challenging you get another entry to win the $1000 Fernie Staycation!

WEAR - your awesome shirt or hat around town to show-off that you supported local!  Be proud!

The draw date for the $1000 Fernie Staycation will be June 28th.  The winner will get to pick 2 nights lodging in Fernie, a gift certificate for dining and an activity to total $1000!  Participating businesses for the Staycation prize are members of Tourism Fernie.
