Fernie has achieved GreenStep Bronze Certification, an important milestone that recognises our community’s commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism.
This certification reflects the collective efforts of many local partners and highlights Fernie’s dedication to protecting our natural environment while strengthening our visitor economy.
Tourism Fernie led the extensive certification process, coordinating the detailed assessment, gathered data, and worked closely with GreenStep to ensure Fernie met the program’s rigorous sustainability standards. The certification helps Fernie remain competitive as more travellers actively seek destinations that prioritise sustainability.
To build on this achievement, Tourism Fernie partnered with GreenStep to host two community workshops, bringing together local stakeholders to identify opportunities and discuss next steps for sustainable tourism in Fernie.
Moving forward, the focus will be on advancing priority sustainability actions, setting measurable targets, strengthening industry engagement, and developing a clear roadmap to guide Fernie’s continued progress toward a more sustainable tourism future.
