Historic Downtown Fernie
Historic Downtown Fernie with its Rocky Mountain backdrop. Photograph from every crosswalk along 2nd Avenue between 7th Street and 5th Street, but be sure to look both ways before you step out. Enjoy quaint shops, cafes, restaurants and heritage buildings.
The Elk River
The Elk River runs gently through Fernie, with many beautiful vantage points. Capture this river shot in late fall with the snow-capped Lizard Range from the North Fernie Bridge.
Swine Flu Bench
Mt. Proctor viewpoint taken from the bench at the top of the Swine Flu Trail. Bike or hike up from the Fernie Visitor Information Centre.
Heaven's Gate (Fernie Ridge)
Fernie nestled in Autumn colours from view points along the hike up to Heaven's Gate (aka Fernie Ridge).
Fernie Golf Club
You will find unparalleled views of the every rugged neighbouring mountain peaks whether you visit Fernie Golf Club for a quick round in the summer or fall months or explore the trails by cross-country ski in the winter season.
Dogwood Park
Dogwood Park is an easy to access riverside spot to soak in the great mountain views and witness Fernie's colourful fall time foliage. A family-friendy trail connects to Fernie's Town trail which includes James White Park and Annex Park. There is vehicular access to Dogwood Park at the end of 11th Street.
Fernie Courthouse
Named one of BC's Best Buildings by the Architecture Foundation of BC, the Court House was built in 1907 and is still in use today. The grounds are a venue to outdoor wedding ceremonies. The Court House is part of Fernie's Heritage Walking Tour.
Fernie City Hall
Built in 1905, City Hall was once home to the Crow's Nest Pass Coal Company and now depicts Fernie's mining legacy with the Miner's Walk on its grounds. Fernie City Hall is also part of Fernie's Heritage Walking Tour
Maiden Lake
Maiden Lake at 19th Street and 9th Avenue is a great spot to capture fall foliage with a backdrop of Mt Proctor, the Three Sisters and Mt Fernie. If you're lucky, you may also spot a beaver working tirelessly on his lodge, deer cautiously grazing, bald eagle searching for his next meal and various species of waterfowl.
Mt. Fernie Provincial Park
Mount Fernie Provincial Park's lush forest and easy trails provide so many photo opportunities. Access Gorby Trail or Sherwoody Trail from various points within the campground.
Fairy Creek Falls
Fairy Creek Falls is one of Fernie’s most popular and family-friendly trails. A short, mostly flat hike leads to this lovely spot from the Visitor Centre.
