5-day Itinerary - Spring Awakening in Fernie BC

Reviewed: February 2025

Spring is a refreshing time to swap city noise for mountain serenity. Embrace the season's energy and take your time exploring the diverse activities and attractions that Fernie has to offer.

Day 1 - Welcome to Fernie

Check in to your hotel and then head out to Historic Downtown Fernie for the afternoon.

2nd Avenue is the heart of our little mountain town and it’s lined with century old buildings, an array of boutique shops, galleries, and cafes.  Locally owned restaurants with friendly atmosphere offer a wide range of North American and world cuisines to choose from. Explore Fernie's diverse dining scene.

Day 2 - Coffee First, then We Hike

Every good adventure starts with a cup of coffee.   Freshies Café on 2nd Avenue will provide just that along with freshly baked goodies.

Download the Trailforks App or pick up a copy of Fernie Trail Map in one of the outdoor shops around town and head out for a nice low-valley hike. Montane trails and Castle Rock are usually the first hikes to clear in early spring and offer stunning views of the valley and the Rocky Mountains.

Now that you're back from your hiking adventure, we believe you should reward yourself with a locally brewed pint or a tasting flight of delicious Fernie beers at Fernie Brewing Company's patio or tasting room; or try flavorful home-made gelatos and ice cream at Happy Cow Ice Cream.

Day 3 - Get Your Heart Pumping with White Water Rafting

Set out for a day on the river with experienced and friendly guides. White water rafting season starts in late May and offers the ultimate adrenalin experience, taking you through stunning canyons with beautiful views on the surrounding mountains and a chance for spotting wildlife. Lunch is included in the trip!

Day 4 - A 2-wheel Adventure

Rent a mountain bike or a fat bike from one of the local shops if you don’t have your own and hit the trails either on your own or with an experienced local guide. Looking to level up your riding skills? Book a private lesson with Ridetheory. Check in with locals about current trail conditions, be respectful, keep your dogs on leash and make lots of noise. Carrying a bear spray while exploring Fernie trails is always a good idea.

Spring biking in Montane

Spend the afternoon strolling and immersing yourself in Fernie’s Culture. Choose one or both self-guided tours – The Heritage Walk or the Art Walk and connect with the local community of talented artists and artisans.

What better way to wrap up a day of adventure than with a delicious meal? Luckily, Fernie’s restaurants & pubs offer plenty of tempting options to satisfy every craving.

Day 5 - Play a round of Disc Golf

Have you ever tried disc (frisbee) golf? It is played much like traditional golf. Spend a couple of hours at the James White Park where the 18 basket course is located, we guarantee you will have fun. Read more about the disc golf course here.
