Traditional Embroidery for Contemporary Application - a workshop with Barbara Gilbert

Friday evening (October 13) plus Saturday & Sunday (October 14 & 15)

This is a 2.5 day workshop that will engage participants in a range of embroidery and fabric embellishment techniques (painting, dyeing, counted stitch, hems & edges, boro, and gold work). The instructor,  from Victoria, has many years of experience and is a former Fernie resident. The workshop is suitable for all fibre artists and most levels of experience beyond absolute beginners.

Friday evening (October 13) for an introductory talk and power point, display of artist samples, and fabric dying demonstration, and Saturday & Sunday (October 14 & 15) for the workshop.

About your instructor, Barbara Gilbert:

Barbara has had a needle and thread in hand since Christmas of 1957 when she received her very own sewing basket from her grandmothers. Her love of hand and needle work influenced her career choice as a Home Economics teacher (specializing in Textiles) and her work with textiles and threads continues on today.

She has completed certificate courses in the City and Guilds (London institute) program in Design, Embroidery, Machine Embroidery, and Surface Design, as well as hand embroidery classes with the Royal School of Needlework in the UK and the Embroiderers’ Association of Canada. As a textile artist, Barbara loves to experiment with new threads and new techniques, often using her own designs. She shares her knowledge and skills with any interested parties!
