Love in a Mountain Winter Wonderland!
Completely surrounded by the majestic Canadian Rocky Mountains, Fernie is renowned as a snowy winter wonderland, making it the perfect place for romance! Simply being in Fernie for a getaway with your main squeeze promises to be memorable in this magical place, but we have a few 'local secrets' to make it even better:
Have a resort rendezvous
Make your way to Cirque Restaurant at Lizard Creek Lodge for the ultimate aphrodisiac; oysters. Enjoy the log fire and leather sofas and then take in the Ice Bar — a spectacular hand-carved cavern of magical lights where you can sip on perfectly chilled premium vodkas or champagne and cuddle up together in fur trimmed Parkas.
Get your heart muscles pumping!
Active lovers will find romance on a snowshoe run or walk on the Cedar Trail among the old growth Western Red Cedars. There’s a bench for a cuddle stop and a hollowed out tree to squish inside together for a romantic photo op.
Have a winter wonderland experience
Take a cosy snowcat-ride to Island Lake Lodge, followed by a gourmet lunch and spa massages with BC bubbly. Walk hand in hand around the snow-trimmed lake and enjoy the spectacular views of mountain peaks and pristine old growth forest. There’s even the ‘I Dew’ point if it’s time to pop that special question!
Surprise your snowmobile sweetheart
Pick up a bouquet of fresh chocolate-dipped strawberries from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory before you hit the Coal Creek Trails. Enjoy them in front of the fire at the Rolling Hills Cabin before sledding into the backcountry on a snowmobile built for two.
Enjoy the old classics - dinner and a movie!
Nevados Restaurant is located in the former ‘Photoplays’ movie theatre – grab a smoochie-selfie in Historic Downtown Fernie with the original outdoor wall art in the background. Savour tacos and tequila for two, then stroll along 2nd Avenue under the twinkling lights to the Vogue Theatre for a night in front of the big screen.
Gaze into your future
Fernie is fantastic for stargazing, with low light and lots of Nordic trails with open skies. Start with a tarot reading and tea at Infinitea (every Wednesday from 8pm), then pack your headlamp and take to the trails at Montane for a big sky experience. If you’re lucky you may even experience the northern lights above the Three Sisters! And even if the stars are not visible, the experience of skiing as the snow falls through the darkness is magical. Finish up with a log fire at the Montane Cabin with a flask of spiced hot chocolate.
Soak up some love
Spend an afternoon soaking in the giant outdoor hot pool at downtown retreat Spa 901, followed by an infra-red sauna. Use of the facilities, including the relaxation rooms is just $15 per person; or included if you book a treatment—the couples massage suite is perfect for the ultimate in relaxation. Follow up with a romantic candlelit dinner at nearby Loaf, with live music every Friday from 6pm.
Don’t forget the cheese!
Class it up with a fondue set rental from Le Grand Fromage and some premium international cheeses and snuggle up in front of the fire in your cabin or condo with a bottle of BC’s Dirty Laundry Wine.
Late night date
Keep it simple with sake to share at Yamagoya. After the kitchen closes at 10pm and the lights go down, the Sake Bar is the perfect spot for romantic moments. The chocolate mousse is divine for sharing, too!
