Cross Country Skiing in Fernie
The beautiful Elk Valley Nordic Centre is centrally located next to Mount Fernie Provincial Park halfway between Fernie Alpine Resort and the City of Fernie.
The trails were professionally designed and are groomed regularly for skate and classic skiing. Trailhead facilities include a warming hut with comfortable seating and maps and information about the trail system. Knowledgeable trail ambassadors are available on most weekends and holidays to chat with about all things Nordic.
The main parking is located in the overflow parking lot at Mount Fernie Provincial Park, where an information kiosk and porta-potty are available.
Trails are for intermediates and above, with some short steep sections and rolling downhills. A new bridge and connector trail to Fernie Alpine Resort was added in late 2014 and there is now an official trailhead sign and access next to Alpine Lodge at the ski resort village area.
There is a box for trail use fees and membership registrations at both trailheads, or purchase ONLINE.
Day-use fee: $15, or $25 for families. Includes insurance.
Great value for multi-day visitors: Nordic Society season pass.
Fernie has 4 distinctly different areas of groomed trails for Nordic skiing.
