The Fernie what? Fernie Factor is a rare weather phenomenon, unique to Fernie, that turns this corner of the Rockies into a powder magnet, creating those famous deep powder days that seem to appear out of nowhere.
More scientifially speaking, Fernie Factor happens when moist air masses from the Pacific are pushed eastward and hit the steep western slopes of the Lizard Range and Three Sisters Mountains. As the air rises, it cools rapidly and releases its moisture — often as heavy, localized snowfall.
Winter season is a fantastic time to experience Fernie with its big mountains, big snow and diversity of areas and trails to explore on skis, snowshoes, snowmobiles and more! With 360' rocky mountain views surrounding historic downtown, and Fernie Alpine Resort only 5 minutes from town, Fernie is a beautiful and easy place to explore and enjoy.
