Do you miss Mountain Bike Events? Then we have the event for you!

The Elk Valley Epic is a physically distanced, COVID19-friendly fundraiser that will assist in raising funds for the installation of a new Ultrasound Service at the Elk Valley Hospital.

District of Elkford - Sparwood, BC - City of Fernie

  • Approx 74km along the Elk Valley Trail and it will be a hard push for most. The exact route is now available on Trailforks and will have staggered start times.
  • It is a blue trail, but the course has a difficulty rating of around 6 due to the distance.
  • Flagging and Sweeping will be done both days.
  • Aid station in Sparwood with COVID-19 friendly snacks.
  • Route includes some single track, some logging roads and a section through the Nature Conservancy of Canada, for which a special permit was provided.
  • Mountain bike, road bike, run or even walk the distance from Elkford to Sparwood and then on to Fernie.
  • Go the full distance, ride half the distance, do it over two days, do a few kilometres, walk your favourite section - it's up to you!
  • Compare this to travelling on icy roads in February for a necessary ultrasound....this will be a walk in the park!

Q. How many people do you expect?

A. Approx 100 riders spaced over 2 days.

Q. How long do I have to complete the route?

A. Again, there is a lot of flexibility on this. You can do it in one go or you can do it over the two days. We already had a father and son complete it last week as they are not available for the September long weekend.

Q. Do I have to mountain bike? Can I do it by road bike?

A. No, we have had inquiries about hiking sections as well as....(insert G-A-S-P)...running the distance! Road bikers would start in Elkford and take the highway to Fernie.  We just want to caution you that it is a busy road and you should take extra care when vehicles are present.

 Q. Do I have to be a member of the FMBC?

A. Yes, the event insurance requires you to be a member of the FMBC. We have Pandemic pricing this year ($5 membership).

Q. I own a business and want to contribute - how do I do that?

A. Contact us -

Q. Do you need volunteers?

A. Yes! Sign up here:

Q. Do I get a tax receipt for my registration?

A. Yes, you do! So long as you give us your correct info the East Kootenay Foundation for Health will be sending you a tax receipt after the event.

Q. When do I get my t-shirt?

A. T-shirts will be distributed the following week.
