Music can set the map for travel and tone during the collection of materials and research for the production of visual work. A song played during an exploration of an environment can become an indelible impression that can lend itself to a mood unique to the recollection of the moment.
Listening to Blind Willie McTell while walking along the Chicago River or live jazz in a club in Soho in London’s West end, listening to The National while exploring the Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati; these instances of melding music and the exploration of new places leave a wealth of ideas and visual memories to draw from.
