The 2nd Annual King of the Castle invites you to take on the mountain!

Racers challenge themselves with a vert filled adventure, climbing up to Castle Rocks, via Hyperextension. High fives, gorgeous views, and ultimate glory await. 

Course/Route info:

  • 5km, 677m climb
  • A tough uphill race, from the River Extension Road (off Coal Creek) to the top of Castle Rocks, via Hyperventilation.
  • Roots Extension - Hyper Extension - Castle Rocks
  • Race finishes at the top, but you'll still need to get yourself back down - that's the easy part though and can be run at a leisurely pace! Snacks, water, electrolytes, and cold beer will be waiting for you. 
  • NB: there is no water or fuel on course or at the top! Despite being 5km, it's a tough climb, so please carry your provisions for the up...and the down! 

Costs: Adult $25, Youth 8-18yrs $15 (discount applied in cart)
- Race Entry includes an Elevation Showcase Racer Giveaway, Fernie Brewing Co. Finish Line Beer, snacks & $5 racer donation to Fernie Trails Alliance.

PLEASE NOTE: Youth Runners aged 8-18yrs are allowed, however racers 12 and under must race with an adult. Please contact us to discuss possible exceptions to this rule.

Awards: New this year! Taking place at the Fernie Arts Station, before the screening of the 2017 Trails in Motion Film Festival. Separate ticket required for film festival - max 100 seats available!

Schedule, Sunday July 2nd, 2017:

  • 8:30-9:30 AM: Bib Pickup - Race Start
  • 10:00 AM: Race Start - River Extension Road
  • 6:00 PM: Awards & Social - The Fernie Arts Station, 601 1st Ave
  • 7:00 PM: Trails in Motion Film Festival - The Fernie Arts Station

  • Last year we sold out, and this year's reel is also awesome! A fun evening of inspiring trail running and ultra running films, suitable for kids and adults.

King of the Castle awards, draw prizes, popcorn, and FBC beers.
