ABOUT SMALL TOWN ARTILLERY
Small Town Artillery is a Rock & Roll band with a horn section, originally from Kaslo, British Columbia. Imagine Billy Talent and Rage Against The Machine met up with Cat Empire and Bruce Springsteen and attended a Chicago concert. Founding members and blood brothers, Tom and Derek van Deursen, have been playing together for 20 years. They are signed to JumpAttack! Records and are currently self-managed & act as their own in-house agency. In 2019 they played more than 70 shows including several festivals and in 2018 they were chosen as one of the top 100 bands in Canada by CBC Searchlight judges, signed to Jump Attack! Records out of East Vancouver, and released their 3rd LP: “Don’t Talk Away The Magic”, which won an Akademia Award for “Best Rock Album 2018”. STA’s success & growth are due to their high-energy live show, robust horn section, relentless self-promotion, and strong desire to see a childhood dream realized, 20 years in the making.
ABOUT RED GIRL
Redgirl is a light shade of bluegrass with some visible folk roots showing. Fronted by the clear and fearless vocals of Anie Radish: Redgirl’s music is built around her pure and unfettered voice, clawhammer banjo, guitar and occasionally, a sassy ukulele. Michael Hepher (married to the girl) on lead guitar, mandolin and backing vocals, brings a balance in harmony, humour and musical creativity to the songs and stories of the band. Redgirl has made music together since early 2001, originally at the core of a 6 piece bluegrass/roots ensemble called “as the crow flies”. Influences include Lynn Miles, Gillian Welch, Bruce Cockburn, Annie-Lou, Crooked Still and Ian Tyson.
Redgirl’s songs; both original and traditional, are about things homegrown: family, laughter, heartache, loneliness, love, connection, fields, boats, ponies and railroads. In the last years, they have been thrilled to share the stage such fantastic musicians as Pharis & Jason Romero, Chris Coole, Cara Luft, Shred Kelly, Jenny Lester, Small Glories, Stacey Earle & Mark Stuart, Ken Hamm and Elena Yeung. Redgirl is happy to bring their own utensils, and love potlucks.
