A fun ski mountaineering race for all levels and ages based at Fernie Alpine Resort. Slap your touring skins on, grab a stick of juicy fruit, cause this event will really groove ya!

What is Ski Mountaineering or Skimo?

The idea is as simple as racing in alpine terrain through a series of climbs and descents using ski touring gear, and skins. Splitboarders are also welcome to race in their own catagory. The fast growing popularity of this new sport has opened discussion which may see it feature in 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Lizard Skinner Skimo

The Lizard Skinner Skimo race is for everybody from recreationalist to competitive racers. This year's course will see competitors setting off from Fernie Alpine Resorts base, climbing 1623m of elevation, over a distance for 15.6km.

Competition (and prize) categories include:

  • Men’s/Women’s Competitive
  • Men’s/Women’s Recreational
  • Junior (up to 18 years of age)
  • Men’s/Women’s Masters (50+)
  • Men's/Women's Splitboard

Race time: 10:00AM to 2:00PM. 

Podium ceremonies: 3:00PM and 5:00PM.

Register online for this race. Great draw prizes and a silent auction with proceeds going to the Fernie Trails and Ski Touring Club. The event is to be followed by the Kokanee Snow Dreams Festival so this is a weekend not to be missed!
