Featuring key lessons from Avalanche Canada Companion Rescue course, BC AdventureSmart youth curriculum, and Elk Valley Snow Shepherds adult riding clinics tailored specifically for young ridres. Professional guides have developed a this single day of fun, outdoor programming to help increase backcountry literacy for little rippers.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Age-appropriate awareness of avalanche phenomenon, safety, and avoidance
  • Backcountry basics such as treewell safety, what to do if you get lost, emergency communication and survival fundamentals
  • Basic understanding of how to use rescue tools such as an avalanche transceiver, shovel, and probe
  • How to recognize hazards and make suitable terrain choices for ability level
  • Riding fundamentals including body positioning for mountain sledding, throttle/brake control, how to avoid/get unstuck
  • Advanced riding skills such as sidehilling, countersteering, jumps/drops, and more!
